His Story

 MAHARISHI NARAYANA BABA

Shri C Narayana Murthy is referred to variously as Maharishi Narayana, Narayana Baba, Audit Swamiji, Swamiji, Guruji etc…

PARENTAGE

Out of the wedlock of Shree. Camsaripally Ramaswami (1914 – 1993) and Smt.Kamalamma (1925 - __), which took place in May 1973, SRI.NARAYANA MURTHY was born on 5/2/1940 at Nellore.  In all the couple gave birth to 10 children, out of which two sons died in 1954 and Oct 2000.  As on date, four brothers and three sisters are surviving in addition to Sri. Narayana Murthyji.
Shree.Ramaswami’s ancestors migrated from a cluster of villages named as Lingampally, Sankarampally & CAMSARIPALLY (Hyderabad State) to Ponneri about 50 Kms from Madras today’s Chennai.  They had a few villages revenue collection and with the introduction of Inams Abolition Act, the villages went out of their control.
Shree. Ramaswami’s grandfather Shree. Krishaniah was a respected gentleman who retired as a Magistrate, who was often consulted by Late Annanthsayanam Iyenger (who was speaker of Lok Sabha) when he was residing in Gandhi street, Chittor.  He was a pious religious man who commanded respect.  His son Ramaseshaiah worked as a teacher and a man of very few words.  He spoke two to three words in a day and was always witnessing the drama of the world.
Shree. Ramaswami having been born in such a family was always very religious, never missed his Sandyavandanams and was reading one chapter of Bhagavad-Gita every day, right from the year 1935.  He never displayed any interest in the worldly activities and is said to be a realized soul.  His day starts at 0400hrs with prayers etc, and pooja to the saligramams and reading of scriptures for 2-3 hours in the afternoon after a nap after lunch.  He retired from revenue department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
Smt.Kamalamma’s Grand father Shree.SWAYAMPAKULA Subbarao Panthulu retired as Deputy collector of Nellore District.  He maintained his religious activities even though he was serving the British collectors and was well versed in Vedic Scriptures.  He took avasara Sanyasam just before his death.  His son Shree.Srirama Moorthy was a graduate from the presidency college Madras and was a classmate of Sarvepally Radha Krishnan (President of India) and Sonti Rama Moorthy (who got into ICS).  He led a spiritual life, read all the scriptures and after retirement from Government service settled down in Shanker Mutt as Swami Narayananda Saraswathi.  The elite of Nellore including the Principal and lecturers of Sanskrit College used to have discussions with him.
Smt.Kamalamma in addition to having a philosophical outlook was also a worldly-wise lady who brought up her children well and saw to their worldly prosperity along with a spiritual bent of mind.

GROWTH OF SHRI. C NARAYANA MURTHY IN THE SPIRITUAL FIELD

Having been born in such a family from both the sides, Shri.Narayana Murthy could not be different.  He was considered to be very intelligent and dynamic right from a young age.  Because of the transfers of his father, he was brought up in his maternal uncle’s house – who was a high school teacher – very strict, disciplined, and even minded and engaged in the welfare of all beings.  He had a broad outlook and helped many.  He taught Bhagavad-Gita to the children.  In a competition Shri.Narayana Murthy got a consolation prize and his uncle Shri.Pattabhi Rama Moorhty’s daughter Smt. Suseela Lakshmi Narasamma (who became Shri.Narayana Murthy’s wife in 1962) bagged the first prize.  His high school and intermediate career at Nellore and college education at Tirupathi were uneventful.  He passed his B.A Mathematics with a university rank.  In 1957, for three months he worked as a very popular teacher at ShreeKalahastri Board High School and entered the A.G’s Office Bangalore as an Auditor.  His mind was restless trying to find out what the world is.  Attending a 20 days lecture by Swami Chimayananda on chapter II of Bhagavad-Gita in February 1959 at the play grounds behind the Shivajinagar bus stand, he has intellectually comprehended the truth that became of the Vasanas one takes birth for fulfilling the unfulfilled desires of the past janmas (births).  While exhausting the vasanas, on should ensure that further vasanas are not accumulated.  When the vasanas get exhausted, the body, mind and intellect should be transcended to realize the Truth.  He attended various lectures of Chinmayanandaji, at Bangalore, Madras/Chennai, and Mangalore etc.  He studied in-depth the Bhagavad-Gita, Upanishads etc.  He read several books of Swami Sivananda, attended the lectures at Rama Krishna Ashram Bangalore and met Swami Yethiswarananda in the year 1963.
With various sadhanas undertaken by him, the culmination took place when he met THE SIDDHA YOGI SIVA SHANKER BABA at Madras in the year 1994.  He found HIM a great Guru who made his progress at top speed and on August 18th 1996 with a glance by the Baba, he became a Self-realised man.  Having realized the Self, there is nothing to be achieved excepting remembering the holy name of the Lord and imparting the knowledge to the ripened souls who meet him.  He is a self-contented man with no desires and is a real MAHARISHI who could benefit any person who approaches Him.  He spends His time some times at Madras and some times at Bangalore.  He says any desire whether it could be worldly or spiritual can be achieved if a person approaches the SIDDHA YOGI SIVA SHANKER BABA with complete faith and surrender.

OFFICIAL CAREER OF MR. C NARAYANA MURTHY

Shri. Narayana Murthy entered the Indian Audit & Accounts Department as an auditor in October 1957.  he was promoted as a superintended (Designation subsequently changed as Section Officer) in May 1965 and as an Accounts Officer in May 1980.  He held all the important charges, which demanded intelligence and hard work.  His target was perfection for which he strived hard.  He was promoted to the Indian Audit & Accounts Services in December 1990.  He worked at Jabalpur up to November 1993, there after at Madras.  Both at Jabalpur and Madras the charges were challenging. At Jabalpur he got an office building constructed in a record time and at Madras he established co-operation between the Audit and the income tax department.  The Audit of the Income tax wing was n a bad shape when he took charge and he brought rhythem and control in its function.  With his spiritual out look Mr. Jayaraman, the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax was the chief guest on 18/8/1996 at the reception held to honour Siddha Yogi Siva Shanker Baba from his Manasa Sarover trip.  This day is important for two reasons :
1. Mr. Jayaraman who was suffering from Malaria got instantaneous relief when Baba told him “GET WELL”.  He was unable to stand even for ten minutes that day morning and wanted to get back after garlanding Baba.  When Baba pronounced “GET WELL”, he got instantaneous cure and remained till 2200 hrs (10 PM) that day.
2. That day marks the Self-realisation day of Shree Narayana Murthy, when he realized the truth when Baba declared that he and Narayana are one Brahman only.
Narayana Murthy was happy to say that he never sought orders from any body at any point of time and his actions were always found immensely satisfying to his bosses and quite often he had to correct his bosses from taking wrong decisions and not performing actions.
He says that he is thankful to the Indian Audit & Accounts Department which has enabled him to pursue his spiritual activities wherever he was transferred.
